The 2014 Youth Conservation Camp for students interested in Environmental Studies will be held July 13-19, 2014 at the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, VA. Students from across the Commonwealth in grades 9 through 12 learn about environmental resource concerns and explore the mountains of Virginia. To sign up for the 2014 Conservation Youth Camp, fill out the 2014 Camper Application and return it to the Eastern Shore Soil and Water Conservation District by April 15, 2014. You can return the form by e-mailing it to Bonnie Mahl at email@example.com or mailing or faxing the application to the address or fax number to the right.
Ye Accawmacke Garden Club and the District sent two campers last year: Charlotte Olmsted and Evan Lawrence. The Eastern Shore Soil and Water Conservation District assisted with travel expenses. A Cascades Hike, a Dairy Science tour on an Agriculture Farm, Volleyball at Mountain Lake, cookouts and Water Quality/Nutrient Management activities are just a few events that were experienced at the Youth Conservation Camp. Above are pictures of the great time Evan and Charlotte James Teeling had at the VASWCD Conservation Camp while learning about lake ecology, shoreline erosion, GIS technology, stream morphology, tree identification, karst geology and fisheries management. Youth Conservation Camp is conducted by the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts. Visit their website to learn more and see the current year's pictures and slide show.
