The Eastern Shore SWCD is offering two $500 Fletcher/Beasley Scholarships for 2017!
The W. Foster Fletcher Scholarship was established in 1987 in honor of Associate Director W. Foster Fletcher of Horsey, who supervised the District's heavy equipment program for more than 40 years. Proceeds from equipment sales during the 1980's were reserved for scholarships, grants and other educational purposes. Applicants of the W. Foster Fletcher Conservation Scholarship must be either a high school graduate or enrolled as a full-time college student.
The Williams H. Beasley, Sr. Memorial Scholarship was established in 1997 in memory of Williams H. Beasley, Sr. who worked as a part-time soil technician for the Soil Conservation Service (known today as FSA). He assisted with the development of conservation plans and the implementation of BMPs. Applicants for the William H. Beasley, Sr. Memorial Scholarship must be a student already enrolled in college.
The scholarship fund is designated for a student who is pursuing an undergraduate college degree related to soil and water conservation. Scholarship payments will be paid directly to the college of each recipient, and divided into two semester allocations. The second payment; however, will be contingent upon the successful completion of academic work. Recipients are expected to maintain at least a "C" average.
