Virginia Conservation Assistance Program (VCAP)

Individual Leadership Award 

 

This State award is presented to a VCAP participant demonstrating a significant commitment to conservation through installation of best management practices in the Chesapeake Bay. The best management practices work to restore problem areas, control and minimize erosion, conserve water within the landscape, improve riparian buffer areas, promote wildlife habitat, re-vegetate bare slopes, stabilize drainage ways, & treat stormwater runoff. 

2022 VCAP Individual Leadership Award:

The 2022 Coastal Stewardship Awardee, John Malbon, was nominated by the Eastern Shore SWCD for the 2022 VCAP Individual Leadership Award.  Mr. Malbon won and ESSWCD Conservation Specialist, Bill Savage, accepted the award on Mr. Malbons behalf at the VASWCD Annual Meeting on December 5, 2022 in Roanoke, VA.  VASWCD Director, Kendall Tyree, presented the award.

Mr. Malbon contacted the District in 2020 about constructing a living shoreline and utilizing the Virginia Conservation Assistance Program. By 2022, the constructed living shoreline is decreasing erosion and stabilizing the bank located on Occohannock Creek.
