Outdoor Exploration Day

2018 - 2nd Annual Outdoor Exploration Day

Saturday, September 29, 2018 marked the 2nd Annual Outdoor Exploration Day at Kiptopeke State Park. There were over 1,000 adults and children in attendance. Visitors to Outdoor Exploration Day met falcons, hawks, & owls with Flight of the Raptor. They made nature prints, pine cone owls and listened to local band Sonic Ukes at the Creation Station. Families went crabbing and fishing down on the pier! Children delighted in feeding live Painted Lady and Monarch butterflies at the Pollination Station. Virginia State Park staff provided historical cooking demonstrations and hands-on experiences with Virginia wildlife. Many organizations and volunteers helped Eastern Shore SWCD and Kiptopeke State Park make the 2nd Annual Outdoor Exploration Day a huge success.

Several shoulder programs were hosted leading up to Outdoor Exploration Day including Hikes, Owl Prowls, and Flight of the Raptor demonstrations for area public school students, teachers, and parents reaching a total of 2,500 people from the local area and surrounding states.
