Frannie's Big Adventure (Science 1.8b and VA 1.12) - This deals with water pollution and how we all contribute to the problem.  Students will participate in an activity to see what happens to Frannie the Fish on her adventure.  We will talk about some of the ways that students can help to make Frannie's adventure better.  Optional Frannie the Fish craft available.

We All Need Trees (Science 1.1, 1.7, and VA 1.12) - This is an interactive story about all the amazing products that trees provide for us.  Products that come from trees will be displayed  Depending on weather/time/teacher preference, students will walk in the school yard and observe different colors, shapes, textures, and sizes of leaves and collect sample to do art work or students can complete a leaf rubbing craft using plastic plates.

Squirmin' Herman and Life Underground (Science 1.1, 1.5, 1.8)  - Squirmin' Herman will read us a story about worms and all the ways worms help us.  They will then get up close and personal as they make observations about real red wigglers.  We will make a classroom worm composter that students can observe over a period of time and record the changes.

From Seed to Plant (Science 1.1, 1.4, English 1.2, 7,9, 10, and VA 1.12) - Students will learn what plants need to grow and survive.  They will hear a story and then play a quick game where they pretend to be plants.  Students can then make their very own soil baby or a mini greenhouse.  Models of a  plant life cycle will be available for students to see and sort.

Litterless Lunch and Recycling Relay (Science 1.1, 8c) - Larry Lunchbox and Louise Lunchbox are very different.  Which one is better for the environment?  How can you reduce the amount of trash that you generate?  Students will then participate in a recycling relay.

Pollinators - Our Local Heroes! (Science 1.4, 5 and VA1.12) - Students will learn what pollination is and the role that bees, bats, beetles, butterflies, hummingbirds, flies, and moths play in producing food.  Four crafts available to choose from:  pollinator mask, pollinator finger puppet, life cycle of a beed, life cycle of a butterfly.
