Scholarship Opportunities - Due March 31, 2023
Annually, the Eastern Shore Soil and Water Conservation District offers the following scholarships to Eastern Shore of VA residents interested in furthering their education in a field related to natural resources conservation:
-
W. Foster Fletcher Conservation Scholarship: Eastern Shore of VA residents who are pursuing an undergraduate college degree related to natural resources conservation are eligible to apply for the W. Foster Fletcher Conservation Scholarship. Students can be either a high school graduate or enrolled as a full time college student.
-
William H. Beasley, Sr., Memorial Scholarship: Eastern Shore of VA residents who are already enrolled in college in a field related to natural resource conservation are eligible to apply to the William H. Beasley, Sr., Memorial Scholarship.
Both scholarships are offered in the amount of $1000 each for the 2023-2024 academic year. Scholarship payments will be paid directly to the college of each recipient, and divided into two semester allocations. The second payment, however, will be contingent upon the successful completion of academic work. Recipients are expected to maintain at least a “C” average.
To apply for either District scholarship, students must complete an official application, which includes a 500-word essay, most recent official transcripts, and three letters of recommendations. Applications are due by Friday, March 31, 2023.
-
VASWCD Educational Foundation Scholarship: The District also screens applications and selects one application to forward on to the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (VASWCD) for consideration for one of the available VASWCD Educational Foundation Scholarships.
Individual applicants must be full-time students enrolled in or who have applied to a college freshman level curriculum. Applicants shall document a class ranking in the top 20% of his or her graduating class or a 3.0 or greater Grade Point Average or appropriate equivalent of individual scholastic achievement. The applicant’s most recent official school transcript must accompany the application. A copy of a school transcript will not be accepted. Applicants shall demonstrate active interest in conservation.
Four $1,000 scholarships will be given to statewide winners. Two scholarships are awarded on behalf of the VASWCD Education Foundation and two scholarships are awarded on behalf of the Virginia Chapter of the Soil & Water Conservation Society. A check will be issued directly to the selected institution of higher education on behalf of the student.
